We love seeing the world thru our friends on social media. We recently caught up with our friends Paul & Stephanie Marchant who have been taking us along on their adventures thru the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Check out their incredible photos and hear more about their travels...
Tell us a little bit about yourself: who you are, what you do, where you are from...
We're Paul & Stephanie - we met our freshman year of college studying engineering in Milwaukee, and pretty much have been together ever since! Paul works as a mechanical design engineer, and I work in technical product marketing at an electronics company. Since we're both on that 9-5 grind during the week, we try to get as much adventuring & exploring in as possible on the weekends. Whether it's planning a hike out in the mountains, or taking our dog to a beach on the coast, we definitely try to maximize our time off.
We see you guys are in the PNW. Have you always lived there? What do you like the most about that area?
We've been in Washington for about 3 1/2 years now, but we're originally from Wisconsin. It was a big change moving out to the PNW from the midwest, but we love it here! There's so much to see and do in terms of the outdoors - we can be either in the mountains or at the ocean in a matter of just a few hours.
You all have some incredible photographs! How long have you been into photography?
Thank you! Photography peaked Paul's interest first - he got his first camera in college and has been shooting on and off for about 10 years now. I got my first camera after we moved to Washington. Paul was always stopping to shoot during our hikes and rather than just stand around and wait for him, I decided to get a camera and join in! Luckily, there's no shortage of beautiful areas to explore in the PNW, so it makes it easy for us to get out and practice!
Coolest place you've ever been: Probably Iceland. The landscapes there are so dramatic and rugged. It's unlike any other place we've been.
Travel hack: Noise-cancelling headphones for the plane are a must and lots and lots of snacks! Airport food & snacks can get expensive pretty quickly and a lot of areas we travel to don't have many options as far as food goes (i.e. - National Parks or other wilderness areas) so we like to have a few things on hand!
Best advice ever given: If it's meant to work out, you'll find a way. My mom said this to me when Paul & I were trying to figure out if we should move to Washington a few years ago and were having a hard time deciding if it would work out. We ultimately decided to go for it and tried not to stress (too much!!), and we're so happy we made the move. We love our lives out here and are so grateful for all of the experiences we've been able to share.
Favorite outdoor brand: Bear Feet Co. socks of course!! (seriously some of the comfiest hiking socks we've ever owned). Beyond that we like Arc'teryx and Patagonia products for clothing, Salomon trail runners & boots for hiking, and MSR gear for backpacking equipment.
Most used app on your phone: Mine is definitely Instagram, followed closely by Spotify and Paul's is Reddit.
Whats on your playlist? Some of our favorites at the moment are Mt. Joy, Andrew McMahon, Billie Eilish, Lord Huron, Sharon Van Etten, (we could really go on forever!), and of course there's always a classic rock playlist for long road trips.
What you cant live without: Paul: Haribo gummy bears, Stephanie: Coffee
Best road trip ever: Driving from Seattle up to Jasper & down to Banff, AB on the Icefields Parkway! The Canadian Rockies are so impressive.
Bucket List item: Hiking through Patagonia (fingers crossed we can check this one off soon!!)
